John Perry Miller, economist and academic administrator, was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on March 26, 1911. The son of Fred and Hilda Wagner Miller, he was educated at Harvard University, receiving his B.A. in 1932, M.A. in 1934, and Ph.D. in 1937. He joined the Yale faculty as visiting lecturer in Economics in 1939, after teaching briefly at Harvard and Princeton.
